What a great visual story! You remind us that there is still a need for craftsmen and women and that they have special value. Your post also reminded me of how crafts people, from many different countries, came together in a spirit of cooperation to recreate Notre Dame after the fire. What they did is a testament to those that have that kind of ability and passion for their craft. Like the person you depict. Hopefully, real photography will endure as AI becomes evermore encompassing.
This is fabulous storytelling, Jeff. The intersection of function and form is timeless beauty. These tools made for the specific boatman are one-of-a-kind sculptures created by a master whose joy at the work shines through. Bravo!
Wonderful storytelling photo essay documenting a centuries old profession and the pride the craftsman takes in the finished product by affixing his signature to each work of art.

Thank you, Gerry! I think this is where photography has and will continue to shine - real stories about real places and people and events.
I live in California where both mental and physical chaos seem to be the order of the day.
Your work thought provoking reminds me that goodness and beauty prevail, all I have to do is slow down and look.
Thank you ~
Thanks... Making photographs and thinking about what I'm making and why helps keep me sane in these strange times.
He reminds me of a luthier and that oar is guitar neck, for example.
Never knew that was even a thing. Great info and as usual, wonderful images.
I know, right? I was surprised to learn about this trade, but then again... in Italy, old ways die hard.
I'm sure that's true. But then again, that's usually not a bad thing where craft is involved.

Thank you, sir! It was a wonderful experience to watch him work.
Love to see true craftsman and artisans at work. Beautiful.
Thanks, Cindy! I do love watching people work with their hands to create beautiful things - in this case, things of beauty *and* function.
Wonderful glimpse of this craftsman!
Thank you!!
WOW! Who knew?? Great pix as a;ways!!!
Thanks, Marty! Hope you guys are doing well...

Thanks, Neil! He's justifiably proud of the work he does...
Ciao Jeff
A super progression to tell your story and an example for all of us about how to do so. It also brings smiles for that Venice workshop.
Best
Luigi
Grazie, Luigi! It was fun to revisit these photographs.
